I remember I was in the Bahamas when I fell madly in love with the ocean. It was loud breeze that always swept me away, the sand swishing between my toes, the clear water, and the peacefulness hearing the waves crash on the rocks. It was a love affair that had me constantly desiring to go back to him. Obviously, there are no beaches in Ohio or Atlanta, so when I found out I was moving to the coastal city of Dalian, I was pretty hype. I looked forward to being back on the beach where I belonged.
I will admit the winter here was horrible, but I knew the summer would be full of all of the things I loved about living in a coastal city. When May came around, so did the multiple beach party invites,BBQs at the beach, and meet ups for swims at non-tourist locations. At one point, I was at the beach every single weekend and loved it.I couldn't help myself, I was allowed me to consistently relive my love affair. It also allowed me to meet some other really cool expats in Dalian.Every moment swimming out in the sea made it worth the harsh winter.
One weekend, my friends (who work at another school) invited me to their schools Beach party. We loaded onto the bus and road out two hours from the city. The beach was secluded and not full of tourist like the other beaches in the city.I remember how peaceful and beautiful it was.I couldn't wait to just swim around and squish my feet in the sand.Everyone was responsible for bring something for the BBQ. Our table was full of food to enjoy, people to laugh with and a stereo for everyone to dance along with. The school organized different games for us to play, but overall they just organized a good time.I went from knowing only two people to knowing everyone who worked at the school. It was hands down one of the best beach parties I have ever been to.
Living on a coastal city has it's downsides but during the summer it's nothing but great.
