The Visa Struggle is Over. I got the email from my new school saying that my work permit application was approved. I feel like Buddy the Elf when he first sees Santa in the toy story. I've been waiting for over a month for this to happen. I feel all of my anxiety that was building up finally released. Now that my work permit application is in it will take 10-15 work days for it to be approved and sent to me. Then I have to either send my documents to the consulate(The closest consulate is in Houston) or go to the consulate myself. I was not expecting for things to pick up this fast but I am ready. I guess I should get packing? Lol.
I never thought I would be in this predicament but this is my life, so I guess I should have expected this. I am having the infamous Visa Woes. Let me tell me a story of how I got into this mess. So in April, I had gotten into this great program to teach english abroad( I won't name the program). I was well on my way and prepared to leave in August for the year.I had my school, knew where I was living, and was waiting for my work permit. This would allow me to live and legally work in China for the year. Unfortunately, my work permit was not going to make it in time to the States so that I could attend the programs orientation. This along with other situations and issues with the program, caused me to leave the program. Fast Forward. Now am I am flying solo working with an amazing recruiting company that has helped me secure an ESL job in Dalian. Here is the issue. SO my new job was unable to apply for my new work permit until the other school canceled the old one. For weeks, they tried and tried to register with the government for my work permit with no success. So I am here in the US freaking out! I try to stay busy, but I am READY TO GO and everything going on seemed out of my control. So I am in frequent contact with my school, and my recruiter whom are probably so tired of me.While we have devised a plan NOW to get me there, we still have one issue to work out. When the old work permit expires. Now when the work permit expires determines when I can get my Z-visa(work permit). As of yesterday, my new school was able to begin to apply for my work permit. Did that mean they just canceled my permit the day before, even though they said they did it a month ago? That still does not answer my question of when it will expire. I am still trying to email the old school to find that out. Unfortunately, they have not been returning my emails. This pisses me off to no end. Just reply with a clear answer geesh. So, I am currently waiting for a reply from the old school and notification from my new school if we can go through with our plan.
This process has been full of mistakes, frustration, anxiety and full of tears. I am honestly ready for all of this to be resolved. I could have made some better decisions in this process definitely. I wish there wasn't a 12 hour time difference and I wish people were better with returning email. I do want to say though that I am SOOO thankful for my recruiter, the hard work, and diligence of my new school. They have been working so hard for me to resolve everything. I am keeping my fingers crossed and my prayers up that everything works out.It will. When it does,is unfortunately out of my control. I will keep the blog updated when the information is given to me. |
