So today I arrived in BA! .I am now chillin' in my own room, listening to my sweet housemate rumble through her things to unpack, and listening to my host moms tv run. I am sooo fortunate to have WIFI:) My host mom promised english this weekend which will make settling in a bit easier for us.
Lets talk about my flight for a bit.Sooo layovers are HORRIBLE and I officially hate them.Usually I mill around airport and stuff my face with whatever food is available. This time it was horedous.Maybe because I was anxious to get here or because the layover at O'hare was so long or maybe because I got attacked at a sushi joint by asians.Regardless it was bad.I will say one thing though,I am GLAD I got connected with another girl who was in my program. We met up when I got off the plane in Houston and bonded together. We ended up meeting up with alot of other study abroad people. I was fortunate enough to sit with some.It made the 11 hour plane ride there bearable (though i slept through most of it anyways). When we arrived in BA we were meet with long lines and were hit with the language. The people here speak soooo fast! Ontop of dropping the "s" in certain words. For example, "Thank you" in spanish is "Gracias".Here in BA they say "gracia". What the HECK! THEY switched up the whole spanish language game on me.Think about it,every word in spanish that uses "s" will be dropped. On a happier note,I had my first BA chocolate bar and thing of coffee(no sugar, the leche was enough). The city of BA is beautiful. On the way to my homestay I noticed that the drive reminded me of driving from Howard University to Foggy bottom in DC. Some neighborhoods are SOO poor with a lot of rundown buildings but when we got closer to the homestay the homes got nicer and the stores became more upscale.Just like in US i suppose. That is all for now.My host mom is going to take us around the neighborhood in a bit and I need to freshen up! OH BTW they have bidet here! How European! Sorry if my blog was random,my mind is running on a million miles per minute. Hasta Luego! -Bre Recently when I tell my friends and family that I am leaving for Buenos Aires soon, they all have the same few questions..I thought that I would address some of these questions so were all on the same page.If You have anymore questions feel free to email me or message me on Facebook.
1) Where are you going? I will be going to Buenos Aires,Argentina July 26th. 2)How long will you be there? I will be there until Thanksgiving. (I know a long time right?) 3)What will you be studying/doing? I will be studying Latin American Societies and Cultures.I will be taking an array of different classes pertaining to the program..I plan on having a service learning internship, learning the tango(they LOVE the tango there),and of course TRAVELING! 4)what is the weather going to be like? Since Argentina is below the equator, the weather is opposite of the weather here.So while I am there it will be winter and spring. So while you all will be soaking in the sun I will be wearing my winter coat and scarf. 5)Are you staying with a host family? What do you know about them? I will be staying with a host mom and another girl in my program. We will be living in a really nice neighborhood called Recoleta. .I don't know much about my host mom or the other girl staying with us but I know they will be nice. 6)Do you speak spanish? Hahaha.I speak a little bit. 7)Will you have a phone? How can we contact you? I wont have an American phone since international calling is soo expensive. You can contact me through email,Facebook messaging, twitter, etc. .I will put up my address on my Facebook so that you can send me letters(Please don't send foods, money through mail.It is hard to get through customs) 8)Are you excited? I am Nervous,Excited,Anxious, and overwhelmed.I leave in a day and I can hardly believe it. I am ready to go off on my Eat.Pray.love adventure!! Its getting closer to my time of departure(Thank GOOODNESS).My nerves haven't kicked in yet,but my anxiety about learning more about the country have.My parents have began the nagging about my departure. They have plenty of questions about the country that I will be spending 5 months in.I can understand. If I had a kid I would probably have researched everything about the country, from the color of the flags to every history book possible. Knowing that about Karen and Stewart I thought that I would share some of the websites I went to for tips, information, and just random stuff.I know you would love to know where your lovable Brianna will be going:) I have seen so many blogs and websites that in my mind I have turned into a Gladiator, like in Scandal. ANYWAYS,here are some of the links, feel free to add websites that are helpful.
