My best friend informed me that even though I've been abroad for six weeks, she still has no idea what I do here. So I know if she doesn't know,(and she talks to me everyday) I know you have no idea.I honestly don't know what to write in my blogs so if you have any topics you want me to talk about JUST TELL ME. I love suggestions!
SOOO DAY IN THE LIFE! WHAT DO I DO EVERYDAY?
Buenos Dias
My day starts bright and early(unfortunately) around 8-10am.This is because my morning classes Vary.If you've seen pictures of my room(on my blog) I have these big windows and am usually awaken by the sun, birds,or the soft movements of my host mom around the house.I drag myself out of my bed and get ready for class. For breakfast I always have coffee, cereal and an apple to go..I've said before that breakfast is really small here, usually including toast, coffee or cereal. This doesn't really bother me much because I never wake up for breakfast at school.
I am lucky enough to be able to walk to school.Which is very different from walking up 5 minutes from a nap and taking ten steps to get to class. School is about 15-20 minutes from home..When I'm running late(which is everyday), it takes me ten. When your school is on the LARGEST AVENUE IN THE WORLD that is great time!! I love walking to school because it's always alot of hustle and bustle. Dog walkers, people walking to work,People reading magazines, and drinking coffee in the cafe. There are also people who sell breakfast on Lunes y Miercoles so sometimes I'll pick up an Arrepa o empanada.
Clase y Almuerzo
Classes.Well my classes are smaller than the ones at Spelman. Half of my classes are in Spanish and the other half are in English The teachers are super nice and very helpful.I always learn something new in class which is always good. Its a lot of work but I manage. .I am lucky enough to only have class from the times of 9am-3pm.Even luckier to be able to go HOME for lunch!!!! In Argentina lunch is a big deal and you know I love LUNCH. So people here go home and have lunch with their family or have long lunches with their co-workers.So when I'm walking to the bakery(two blocks from my home) to pick up a sandwich (Our host family only provides us breakfast and Dinner)I'm usually surrounded by ninos y sus padres. It's by far the cutest thing. While walking home with the families, I can always here from a distance, sweet compliments by the cute construction workers (don't tell my dad LOL)this is Always a great confidence booster so I don't complain!
Internship Shawty
After classes four of us from IES go to our internship at La Casa De Ronald McDonald..We go about three times a week(Lunes,Martes y Miercoles) for two to three hours each time. For the most part we play with little kids the whole time.It is probably the happiest time of the day..Its even better than sleeping and you know sleeping is the happiest time of my life. No one speaks a word of English and although I often have the confused look on my face Its all good. The kids and the volunteers are use to the confused face by now. The little kids just continue to talk to me even if I have no idea what they're saying. The kids we spend most of our time with are between the ages of 3-9.They are regular kids who argue, laugh, poke fun and talk ALOT. .I don't mind I just listen.laugh and try to talk as much as I can. They always look at us strange when we speak English, so I try to refrain. Last time I was there we had an arts and crafts class, where we built a time machine then did hand paintings. The kids LOVED IT. We loved it too LOL!!
After my internship I go home and try to finish homework before dinner with my housemate Jenna and my host mom.Dinner in Argentina is usually around 10 but our host mom loves us and we have dinner between 8-9.I love family dinner because I always miss my host mom and Jenna during the day.Family dinner is the only thing that remains the same in Cincinnati, school, and here.
WELP! That's pretty much what my weekdays look like. On the weekends I like to go somewhere new!Sometimes I'll go window shopping on Sante Fe, try a new restaurant, get a nose piercing, visit Chinatown, etc.I just want to experience the city as much as I can. This weekend it shall be MALBA and the zoo(if its not raining) Most definitely will write about it next time!
