SOOO the last 42 hours have been filled with NO english. My minimum spanish and being ¨shy¨ was not working for me. SO let me tell you about the bus station. So the bus station in BA is in Retiro, which is a barrio peligroso. There are shanty homes behind the bus station,it is really sad.It reminded me alot of SA.It was a struggle to blend in and not look like a tourist. My huge backpack definitely gave me away tho.Lol. The humanitarian in me made me hand over some of my lunch to a family.
So my bus wasn´t double decker which made me sad but I was happy I had my own whole set since there weren´t alot of people going to santiago. Of course no one on the bus knew,or cared to know english (FML).I was lucky enough to be sitting near some cute Chileans who were super helpful.
SOO for dinner we stopped at this middle of nowhere restaurant.I was soo confused.First we were on a highway and next thing I know were on this dirt road. Then everyone got off the bus super fast.Bruh it looked like a Trap House. In my mind I was like,Ömg Imma be raped, sold for drugs, and there is NO WHERE to run or hide¨.The bus drivers looked super annoyed with me but I had general concerns. I tried to text Tahja on the ¨Wifi¨Mentras! No wifi. The struggle was soo real.
So after dinner it was of course time for sleep and they turned on the heat and locked the bathroom. My stomach was soooo mad at my dinner,I almost diezzzed. No water, was hot and had hotflashes all night(no i am not too young to have those). The Chileans have a different accent that I am not accustomed too.No crazy italian-spaniard spanish here. I woke up driving up to the Andes Mountains. They are muy hermosa .I dont even like mountains but there is something about mountaintops covered in snow and kissing the clouds.
That morning I finally started speaking spanish and the cute chileans were excited and intrigued by me. They of course called me ¨Grenga¨ when I told them where I was from but I explained to them (in Spanish) that unlike Grengas I was trying to be less Genga and more like them.Does that makes sense?First convo successful but once again that accent is SERIOUS.But when you talk to them more it gets easier,They taught me some slang words and more about their city.Apparently the police are more stricter here than in BA. soo no Cali thug life, drinking a 40 with my pito in the street for me* SAD FACE*
Customs:<----- BOOOOOO!! So much but I am so thankful for my chilean friends, and the study abroad Australian. The Pretty stamp in my passport was worth the annoying time there.
Soo when we were driving by the Andes I didn´t know that we would be driving DOWN THEM. I am in this big ass bus tryna go down these small ass sharp curves.I was freaking out the whole time.Especially after they told me that the snow caps often fall on the road. I was doing serious praying and screaming.
After the bus ride everything was a breeze. The subway was easy to get around, purchasing money and finding my hostel.I LOVE it here sooooooo much. Do I have to go back to BA? Wine tour Manana y Asado con mi amiga de Spelman viviendo en Chile eso semestre.
Nos Vemos,
Bre!
